Salesforce App Hijacked by Hackers: Google Reveals Data Exfiltration Exploit

Unfortunately, not all of this week’s news is positive. On Thursday, it was reported that hackers had stolen large amounts of data by tricking employees at companies into installing a modified version of a Salesforce-related app.

Google’s Threat Analysis Group discovered that a third-party Salesforce app was hijacked by hackers, allowing them to exfiltrate data from compromised Salesforce instances. The attackers exploited a legitimate app by injecting malicious code into its JavaScript files, potentially impacting any organization using the app.

Thankfully, Salesforce responded quickly, removing the app from AppExchange and revoking its OAuth credentials. While this may not be Salesforce’s fault, it’s a stark reminder to remain diligent around what modern-day hacking looks like, no matter how big or small your company is.

  • Document everything! Keep track of your troubleshooting steps and findings to speed up future debugging and support collaboration.
